What you think of God will affect every aspect of your life. What you believe about God will impact the way you behave. Paul encourages the Colossian believers to be established in the true faith so that they can recognize and resist false teachers and false teaching. The theme to the Book of Colossians is found in the first chapter at the end of verse 18. There Paul states that he is writing to the Colossians to declare the preeminence of Jesus Christ. This brings up the question. Why does Jesus deserve to be preeminent? Many religions want to set their leaders on par with Jesus but is that legitimate? Not according to Paul; and he gives some very good reasons why.

In our study of Colossians we are working our way through Paul’s prayer. We are in verse 10. There Paul encourages us to live a life that is worthy of our Lord. This seems like an impossible task and it is without the empowering work of God’s grace and God’s Spirit.

The Book of Proverbs gives three classifications for the fool: The Simple, The Fool, and The Scorner. In our study we have labeled the Scorner as the “past-hope” fool. The only One who can change the heart of the scorner is God, Himself. Whether the scorner is willing to change or not he is still, according to the Book of Proverbs, deserving of severe punishment.
